Louisiana State University at Alexandria’s teacher education unit promotes quality instruction, stimulating scholarship, strong academic performance, high ethical standards, and active service with the goal of positively impacting the lives of future teachers, their students, and citizens in the surrounding communities. The unit provides program completers with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required to become proactive educators who are determined to meet the academic, linguistic, social, and physical needs of all learners. A rigorous academic curriculum, extensive and varied field experiences, professional development activities, and opportunities to serve others develop such educators. The education unit emphasizes life-long learning, the appreciation of cultural diversity, and the inherent right of all to quality educational experiences.

Accreditation

Louisiana State University at Alexandria is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). All of LSUA’s teacher preparation programs are approved by the Board of Regents and the Louisiana Department of Education. In addition, LSUA is pursuing accreditation by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), with an onsite visit scheduled for Fall 2009.

    The Speak Easy Communications Club and Student Government are sponsoring the annual Harvest Hullabaloo beginning with a bonfire across from The Oaks Residence Hall.   • 10 Ells to present: 3 Shades of Green - Creation, Conservation, Communication
    Dr. Kevin Ells, assistant professor of Communication Studies and recipient of a 2009 National Endowment for the Humanities grant to attend the NEH Summer Institute "A Fierce Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and the Roots of Environmental Ethics" will offer insights on environmental communication. The lecture is part of the AEH Cavanaugh Lecture Series. The lecture is free and open to the public.
  • 10 Orientation Session for Spring 2010
    Orientation is designed to welcome new students to the university and to provide them with the kind of information that will help them achieve success in their college careers. Orientation is required for all new freshmen and for transfer students with 12 or fewer hours. Once students have attended orientation and met with an advisor, they can register for classes. To sign up for an orientation, students should call the Advising Center at 767-2604.
